In a vibrant display of intellect and talent, Rex Insurance successfully hosted its highly anticipated Interschool Spelling Bee Competition, bringing together 23 public schools from across Lagos State. Each school was represented by two exceptional students who showcased their spelling skills, quick thinking and composure under pressure.

The event, held at the Rex Insurance Head Office in Victoria Island on Thursday, 13th November 2025, was designed to promote literacy, build confidence and encourage healthy academic competition among students from Lagos State. It was a celebration of young talent and a step towards fostering a culture of learning and personal growth.

The program commenced with a welcome address from Ebelechukwu B. Nwachukwu, Managing Director/ Chief Executive of Rex Insurance, who reaffirmed the commitment of the company to support education and youth development initiatives. She shared, “At Rex Insurance, we believe in empowering the next generation by fostering both academic and personal growth. We are proud to contribute to the development of young minds and to encourage a culture of learning and healthy competition, as today’s young spellers are tomorrow’s innovators and leaders,” she stated.

Representing the Lagos State Ministry of Education was Mrs Adebisi Omolaoye, Lagos State Education District 4 Coordinator, who commended Rex Insurance for its significant contribution to the academic growth of students, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in advancing educational excellence.

The competition featured three exciting rounds, with participants displaying not only their spelling abilities but great composure and quick thinking before a distinguished panel of four judges from Rex Insurance: Ngozi Onyeme, Assistant General Manager, Legal Services; Wilson Okoh-Esene, Head, Corporate Communications & Customer Experience; Victoria Udoh, Team Lead, L&D/HRBP, and Franklin Obidigbo, Facilities & Project Manager.

After intense rounds of competition, the following schools emerged as the winners:

  • 1st Place: Gbaja Girls Senior Secondary School
  • 2nd Place: New Era Girls Senior Secondary School
  • 3rd Place: Obele Community Senior High School

Each of the top three schools was awarded cash prizes, educational materials and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance. All participants, regardless of their placement, received certificates of participation and educational materials, celebrating their dedication and hard work. The prizes for the top three winners were presented by the General Counsel/ Company Secretary, Ms. Shiela Ezeuko and Head, Human Capital Management, Mr. Tudor Osademe.

At the conclusion of the event, Emmanuel Ndoh, Head of Brand and Events at Rex Insurance, expressed his appreciation to the participating schools, the esteemed judges, and the Lagos State Ministry of Education for their support. “Education remains the critical focus of Rex’s Corporate Social Responsibility objective and we strongly committed to empowering young minds and investing in the future of our community and our nation,” he said.

The competition wrapped up with a group photo session, followed by networking opportunities among students, teachers and company representatives. This moment marked yet another successful edition of Rex Insurance’s ongoing commitment to educational empowerment and social impact.
