On Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Rex Insurance, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, was officially inaugurated as the 27th Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA). This achievement makes her the first woman to lead the Association in its 55-year history, marking a new chapter of leadership for the industry.
The ceremony brought together esteemed guests, including the representatives of the Governors of Lagos, Delta, and Abia States, alongside the Commissioner for Insurance/ CEO of National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin. Also in attendance were past NIA chairmen, insurance executives, traditional rulers, and government officials. Industry leaders, Members of the Governing Council, family, friends, and the media gathered to grace the occasion.
Chairing the occasion, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, OON, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, described the investiture as a defining moment for the insurance industry, noting that visionary leadership, stronger collaboration, and fresh perspectives will be instrumental in shaping the next phase of growth.
For her keynote address, Mrs. Rose Nat Eshiett delivered a thoughtful presentation titled “Moving Insurance from Potential to Performance.” Focusing on Nigeria’s energy sector, she explained how strong governance, fresh thinking, and deep collaboration can turn industry possibilities into meaningful economic results. She concluded with a definitive call to action, challenging stakeholders to embrace new opportunities and lead sustainable development.
In her acceptance address, the new Chairman of NIA, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, expressed gratitude to the Governing Council and members of the Association for the deep trust in her ability to lead the industry, while acknowledging the valuable contributions of past leaders, especially her immediate predecessor, Mr. Kunle Ahmed, whose tenure was instrumental in the successful passage of the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025.

To set the direction for her leadership, she unveiled her vision for the Association through the ACE Agenda (Awareness, Capacity Building, and Enforcement). This practical framework aims to improve public confidence, strengthen professional capacity, increase insurance adoption, and promote greater compliance across the industry.
Realizing these goals depends entirely on collective effort, which is why she emphasized the need for deeper collaboration among insurers, regulators, brokers, agents, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to build an industry that is trusted, accessible, and positioned to deliver greater value to individuals and businesses.
This investiture marks more than the beginning of a new tenure; it reflects a shared commitment to building a stronger, more trusted, and more resilient insurance industry through innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
