The Nigerian insurance industry’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of professionals was reinforced yesterday June 22, 2026, during a collaborative session between the Incoming Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) and MD of Rex Insurance Limited, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu accompanied by the Director-General of NIA Mrs. Bola Odukale, and members of the Young Insurance Professionals (YIP) at the NIA Building, Lagos.
The engagement provided an opportunity for young professionals across the industry to interact and share their perspectives on the future of the profession, and discuss key issues affecting career growth, talent development, innovation, and industry relevance.
During the interactive session, members of YIP raised several concerns and recommendations, including the need for stronger mentorship programmes, improved capacity-building initiatives, enhanced visibility for young professionals, greater adoption of technology, and more deliberate efforts to attract and retain talent within the insurance sector.
Responding to the contributions, Mrs. Nwachukwu commended the group for their passion and commitment to the industry, noting that many of the issues raised were already captured within her strategic agenda ahead of her assumption of office as NIA Chairman.
She emphasized that empowering young professionals will remain a key priority of her administration, stressing that the future growth and sustainability of the insurance industry depend largely on its ability to develop, engage, and retain talented professionals.
According to her, creating opportunities for learning, leadership development, networking, and industry participation for young professionals is essential to building a stronger and more resilient insurance sector. She further highlighted the importance of collaboration among industry stakeholders in addressing challenges related to professional development, innovation, and workforce sustainability.
Mrs. Nwachukwu also encouraged members of YIP to remain actively involved in industry affairs and continue contributing innovative ideas that will support the transformation of the sector.
The Young Professionals expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage directly with the incoming NIA Chairman and welcomed her openness to dialogue and collaboration. They also pledged their support towards initiatives aimed at advancing professional excellence and strengthening the industry’s future.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to fostering closer collaboration between the NIA leadership and young professionals, as both parties reaffirmed their dedication to building a more inclusive, innovative, and future-ready insurance industry.
